Friends of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse

A Support group for the lighthouse in Fenwick Island, Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland

While the lighthouse is actually in the State of Delaware and is, today, owned by the State, it is located adjacent to the Delaware and Maryland state line. It is so close to Ocean City that people there like to think of it as their lighthouse, too. Can you blame them?

In the photograph above the lighthouse and the two supporting structures, the Keeper’s House and the Assistant Keeper’s House (now privately owned) are in Fenwick Island, Delaware. However, the street and the sidewalk you see in the foreground are in Ocean City, Maryland.

The “New” Friends of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse was formed in 2007 and has a website at https://fenwickislandlighthouse.org/. They have a Facebook page but is does not appear to be maintained or updated on a regular basis.

The “Friends” website presents a history of the lighthouse and other information. The volunteers of the group provide open tours of the grounds and interior of the lighthouse – ah, but, no climbing of the stairs. The Light is open (or was open in 2022) according to the following schedule. Note that they are closed when it rains.
